Understanding NDIS funded lawn and property maintenance in Townsville
If disability makes essential yard tasks difficult, help with some household or yard maintenance may be an appropriate NDIS support. It is not a general gardening allowance. What you can purchase depends on the current support rules, your disability-related needs and your individual plan.
Start with the task and why you need assistance
Write down the essential task you cannot do because of disability and how assistance would help with daily life. For example, you might need help with an agreed mowing task to keep your outdoor space usable. A provider’s service list or quote does not establish funding eligibility.
Separate maintenance from improvements
Routine assistance and property improvements are different requests. Do not assume that landscaping, a new garden, major tree work, structural repairs, materials or landlord responsibilities are covered because lawn maintenance has been discussed. Ask about any unusual or substantial work before booking; some work may need a different provider or separate assessment.
Check the plan before authorising work
Confirm which budget applies, whether the support is allowed, and whether any funding or service restrictions affect the purchase. A plan manager can help check invoice and budget requirements; the NDIA determines funding decisions. If you are unsure, seek clarification before work starts. Self-management does not remove the rules on what funding may buy.
Ask for a clear quote from Henari
Tell us your Townsville suburb, the tasks required, access arrangements and whether you want a one-off visit or recurring work. Ask the quote to separate mowing, edging, agreed clearing, waste removal and any other approved tasks. Confirm whether travel, minimum charges or disposal costs apply and what happens if weather affects the visit.
Keep useful records
Keep the agreed scope, quote and invoice. Where NDIS funding is used, the invoice should accurately describe the work delivered and meet the relevant claiming requirements. Avoid vague descriptions that hide what was purchased. Ask for an explanation if an invoice differs from the agreed job.
Questions to ask before booking
Is this essential assistance related to my disability and consistent with my plan?
What work is included, and what is excluded?
What is the full quoted cost, including agreed additional charges?
Who authorises changes to the job?
What happens if the work cannot proceed on the day?
Discuss the work your yard needs
Henari can discuss a practical scope and quote. Funding eligibility needs to be checked separately from whether Henari can perform the work.
Official NDIS information
The NDIS says plan funding can only be used when a support meets all three conditions below. Lawn or yard assistance is not automatically payable from every plan.
What the NDIS says
You can only use the funding in your plan for items that are:
• NDIS supports
• related to your disability
• in-line with your plan.

For lawn and property maintenance, check that the task is an NDIS support, is related to your disability and is in line with your plan before booking. A Henari quote does not determine funding eligibility.

Funding information: the NDIA’s published support list includes essential household tasks that a participant cannot do because of disability, including yard maintenance.
